Wednesday and Thursday

Yesterday, Wednesday the Fourth, was a pretty normal day in Denmark. We woke at 5:55, as usual, got ready for school, took the short chilly walk to the bus, and went to school. The first lessons two lessons of the day we had Chemistry. For the first lesson we were in the classroom, then in the second lesson we moved in to the lab to do a prac experiment. Danish lab safety is rather different from Australian Lab safety, I have discovered, So this was a very interesting experience. Many of the rules that I had learned in chemistry in Australia didn't apply here. Rules such as: don't shake a test tube, don't point a test tube at anyone when heating it, never smell anything by putting your nose over it. Another bizarre thing i saw in chemistry was a transparency projector was set up as their heating instrument, not Bunsen Burners.
Other than chemistry, the other classes were generally uneventful and went as normal. Normal as in I didn't understand a thing except for maths and the random phrases that the boys would say in english through their danish babble.

After school we wandered further in Slagelse to look at the Australian shop, as it was shut the day before, only to discover that all they sold was woolen socks, shirts, sheep skin and leather boots. It was a little bit of a disappointment, but I did have a nice chat with the shop keeper, and he said 'mate' to me, which made my day. Wednesday's Christmas Calendar gift was shower gel and Tuesday's was Riesen.

For dinner on Wednesday I had rice pudding, like the one from the weekend, and it was absolutely delicious.

Today we had Technology all day again. Today, though, we made a life-size wooden cut out of a person. We drew the template onto the piece of wood, then we painted clothes and a face onto the woman. Once we had finished painting we started to cut out our person, however we haven't finished cutting her out yet.

It has been raining and very windy all day today as storm Bodil brews in the west, though very soon Bodil will be upon us, tearing up trees and tipping over buses. All of the bridges in Denmark have been closed, so even if we wanted to, we couldn't leave Zealand. The trains have now stopped too, and the wind appears to be getting louder and stronger.

Today's Christmas Calendar gift was a Sun Cola popper, which is like cola cordial.
