Most Amazing Weekend Ever!

What a weekend! After staying up late to watch a movie on Friday night, not just because it was an English movie... it was funny too, I had a lovely sleep in. Eventually we were all out of bed, and so we had breakfast. Then we all got ready for one of the most exciting days thus far. I had my long johns on, a long sleeved woolen shirt and a thick pull over jumper, long socks, and boots, today was going to be a little bit chilly. We all piled into the car and set off for Copenhagen. By the time we arrived it was early afternoon, so we spent our time looking around at the sites, my Host Family being really good tour guides. We had been planning on going on a canal tour, but we got there just a little too late, and missed out, but that's ok, we  had a just as good time looking at many a monument and I even saw the Little Mermaid, who is actually quite little. It was freezing down by the harbour, but the sights were lovely. I got to see the Danish Opera House, and I must say for people who designed such an amazing opera house for Australia, their own is a little bit of a let down. I mean it's still beautiful, but it's a much more reserved design. After we had seen all there was to see down by the water, and our parking ticket ran out, we went and found a park further to the main street of Copenhagen, and closer to our eventual destination... Tivoli Gardens! After we eventually found a park, trust me, finding a park in Brisbane is definitely easier than finding a park in Copenhagen, we set off for an hour in the main street. Natacia and I spent this hour trying to find a toilet. Once we had found said toilet we met up with the family again, Natacia and I said a temporary farewell, and went to central station, the train station in Copenhagen, to meet with all the other Australian's and their Hosts. Once we had all found each other and had a bite to eat, we set off to enter Tivoli. Tivoli is an old Danish theme park, boasting a 100 year old roller-coaster. We were all excited to both talk with each other about our various experiences so far, but to experience a Danish theme park. David and I, both coming from Queensland, were ready with a mental comparison list of Australian to Danish parks. Once we were in the park the first ride we went on was the old roller coaster. We were all waiting in line, us Australian's having minor concerns about the fact that it was so old that a person had to sit on the wagon with you to operate the brakes. It took us until we were on the ride to realise that it wasn't going to be a particularly dangerous ride, it was 100 years old for goodness sake. It was still fun to be on though. We then went on a ride kind of like the Cha Cha ride in Australia. After that we went on a real roller coaster with loop-the-loops and it was very fun, we went on it twice in a row. Then we went on a ride called 'The Flying Suitcase' which told you about all the stories Hans Christian Andersen wrote. We then went on a site seeing ride where it takes you up a tall tower in a rope swing merry go round, it moves rather slowly and you can see over all of Tivoli and Copenhagen. It was breathtaking. We then went on a childs ride, where you sat in what I assume were 'Viking ships' and went around and around and up and down. We also went on another milder roller coaster, and they took us around 3 times. We went on a few of the rides again, then I bought a massive as Fairy Floss! It was huge! It cost 29DKR, which in Australian is $5.80, now that seems expensive, but in Australia fairy floss usually costs $4 and is about a third of the size of this fairy floss, so i think it's a bargain! It was not long til closing time now so we went down to the lake to take a few pictures, then as the clock struck 11 we made our way out of the park, said goodbye to each other, and went our separate ways again. Natacia and I then joined the rest of the family and made our way home.

On Sunday we woke late again and after we'd all had breakfast together we got ourselves dressed and ready to go Christmas Tree shopping. We walked around and around the Christmas tree farm trying to find the perfect one, which Natacia eventually did. Oliver worked the saw and cut it down, then Kurt carried the tree to the main path, then Oliver and Susanne carried it out together, while I walked behind taking pictures. We loaded it onto the trailer, but then unhooked the trailer as we had to go into the city to buy some last minute Christmas gifts. Once we were done we made our way home, stopping to pick up the tree of course. I have never bought a real Christmas tree before, and probably never will, and I never knew how many things you needed to think about when finding the perfect tree.

This weekend was the best weekend ever. Photo's will come later, it's after midnight here in Denmark, and we just finished Christmas celebrations.
