The Shortest School Day Ever

Tuesday was an interesting day. I was meant to be presenting to the class in English, so that they could learn little about me, and what it's like in Australia. This, however, never occurred for a very strange reason. Monday afternoon there was some talk among the students that their schedule had changed for Tuesday, and so they asked the teachers what was going on. The teachers were going on a trip, so that meant that when we arrived at school on Tuesday we would have two lessons, then all the teachers would leave. Once the teachers had left we could either stay at the school all day or we could go home.

Before we left, though, we had some business to do. One of the boys, Janus, had seen my Facebook post a few days earlier about Vegemite, and wanted to try it. I had the Vegemite and he had brought some buttered bread. It was time to test the Vegemite... I took one look at his bread and couldn't believe my eyes, he had butter spread over the bread nearly a centimeter thick. He tried it anyway, he said he liked, even though it was quite salty, but I think it wasn't a fair taste test, because no one can have that much butter on the bread, and still taste the Vegemite.

We finished around 11:00 am, so Natacia suggested that we walk into the Slagelse's city centre. On the walk down from the school Natacia received a phone call from her mother, letting her know that she had been asked to interview for a job. There was one problem though, it had to be done before 3 pm and I couldn't go with Natacia. So we walked back up to the school, where there were still a few people in the classroom, and I stayed there until Natacia was done. When she was finished Janus, one of the boys in the class, escorted be down to the bus stop to wait for her. I then had to venture alone along a street to meet with Natacia who was walking towards the school from the city centre... I survived and met her after no longer than 2 minutes walking. We then walked together back to the city centre. In Slagelse there is a shop that is all Australian merchandise, unfortunately it was closed for another hour when we arrived. We continued walking to the main shopping centre where we looked through some shops, then had something to eat. After this we started to walk to the bus station, partway there we remembered that we never went to the Australian shop, but didn't know how to get to it from where we were... so we gave it a miss and caught the bus home. When we arrived home it was still only 2:30, and if we had of had a proper school day we still would have had nearly an hour left of school.

After dinner we were off to Scouts, which starts at 7:00 pm. At Scouts they split up into their small groups (kind of like what we call 'Patrols' in Australia) and did their own individual activities. One group made hot chocolate and popcorn over the fire, another group was making Christmas decorations, and another was just cleaning up their room. All of the little groups get their own room, which they can decorate and organise as they please. at 8:00 a few of us had a meeting about a badge that we are taking on the weekend, to complete the badge you need to stay awake for 36 hours, straight. Once the meeting was over the other scouts went back to their groups. At 9:00 pm Scouts finished, and so we went home, to bed.

Slagelse is a very pretty place, and Tuesday was a good day.
